Twice a year, in the spring and fall, SiNaCa Studios participates in Gallery Night. This event is held by the Fort Worth Art Dealers Association, which SiNaCa is a member of. Gallery Night is an area wide event where participating galleries keep extended hours to show case the visual arts and our community’s unique cultural richness. Most galleries are open noon to nine. The event is free to attend.
Open Streets is a four-hour Sunday event which closes Magnolia Avenue and other adjacent streets to traffic and opens them up to cyclists, food trucks, dog-walkers, skateboarders, yoga classes, facepainters and much more. The event is an expression of the Near Southside’s community spirit in every way: local businesses set up activities along the route; neighborhood residents help spread the word about street closures and detours; and dozens of community partners take ownership of key planning details such as routes and activities, temporary public art projects, pet adoptions, bike safety courses, setting up and breaking down barricades on event day, and much more. Open Streets was presented by Near Southside, Inc. (formerly Fort Worth South, Inc.) and the City of Fort Worth for the first time in 2011 and drew hundreds of participants. Since then, the event has grown to be one of the Near Southside’s most beloved community events with attendance in the thousands. We offer different kiln forming hands on activities and demonstrations during the event.
Open Studio Night
Join us the second Friday of each month from 6p -9p as we host an open studio night at SiNaCa. This is your chance to find out more about the “magic” that goes in to creating glass art. Each month we feature a different artist in our studios. As the artist creates their work we give you an interactive play by play, so you can understand better why they do what they do. Our on site gallery showcases our featured artist to give you a close up view of what they create. Its also the perfect time to find out how you can get involved in learning how to work with glass.
Artists in Heat
Artists in Heat is the beginning of our “New Year” and the kick off for our annual membership campaign. We feature a nationally recognized glass artist to present a lecture about their work and process. Afterwards is a meet and greet, and our update of SiNaCa’s past year and where we are heading. We will offer you the opportunity to become a member of SiNaCa Studios at one of a number of contributing levels. At the conclusion of the meet and greet will be the opportunity for demonstrations by the visiting artist. Please stop by and tell us that you support glass art by becoming a member and supporting the amazing evolution of our Gallery and School!
Ice Cream Social
The middle of each July we turn off the glass blowing furnace for annual studio maintenance and celebrate with an Ice Cream Social fundraiser. We hold sand casting workshops for people to participate in as they enjoy ice cream. Local artists donate glass bowls that are sold at the social. At the end of the sand castings we ladle out the remaining molten glass in to kegs full of water that will be remelted when we relight the furnace. Proceeds from the event go directly to studio maintenance.
