Veteran Programming
Veteran Programming
SiNaCa Studios School of Glass believes that through the art of making, glass has therapeutic principles that provide Veterans the opportunity to expand their tactile sensibilities and heal through creative expression. We have developed three different avenues of expression in glass for Veterans. Whether you are interested in a first, or short term experience with glass, or are looking for longer term opportunity to express yourself we feel we have an option for you.
Veterans Day Celebration
Join us on the second Saturday in November as we say thank you to our Veterans, active duty and first responders and their families for a free day of Walkup Workshops. Experience working with glass in the three disciplines that we offer; kiln forming, flame working and glass blowing. We will have pre-set items in each of the studios, and we do ask that you register for a time slot. Registration can be done below.
Identify Your Creative Voice
Identify Your Creative Voice is a series of six 3-hour classes that will introduce the veteran to exciting new techniques in Kiln Formed glass. Each meeting is designed to teach participants new techniques and to build a progression of skill and creative visual voice. Participants can sign up for a individual meeting to learn a different technique, or sign up for all 6 meetings to build on the existing technique to create a larger design based work, guided by our dedicated instructors. Design based work can be expressed in pattern, form, line, shape with a focus in decorative functional application. Each meeting is designed to teach students new techniques and to build a progression of skill and creative visual voice. This program is working towards building pieces for a collaborative/ group exhibition at a local gallery in Fort Worth.
Courage Through Fire
Courage Through Fire is a program offered to the Armed services, specifically Veterans, introducing the rich traditions of glass making. Courage through Fire is a 10-week (40 hour) program that will introduce several of the hot and warm beginning techniques of glass art creation through item/project based teaching. This course is an amazing introduction to all of our studios that allows Veterans the opportunity to learn the scientific principles and rich history behind studio art glass while practicing a wide variety of glass making techniques; glass blowing, sand casting, kiln forming, cold working and flame working. Participants are hands on with the material through every session and leave this class with a new appreciation and understanding of glass as an artistic medium.
